Congratulations to Takachar (India) for winning the first EarthShot prize for Clean Air.
Farmers in India (and many other countries) currently burn crop residues after the harvest and this results in huge amounts of soot and greenhouse gases being released. The soot often results in smog in local towns which causes breathing and related health care issues.
The char (biochar) the kiln produces is then used to improve soil fertility.
The biochar industry in Europe uses similar (but much larger capacity) kilns to convert crop and waste wood residue into biochar. Thank you to all those that have supported SoilFIxer and already adopted biochar. We hope the work of Takacahr helps the whole industry progress.
