Reusing potting compost

Reusing potting compost

Do you have some potting compost left in your containers? Don’t throw it away!

Here I share two tips on how you can reuse it.

One: Top up the nutrients used by the plants. You can either add a small amount of fertiliser (liquid or pellets) or add a thin layer of new compost into the container. Then simply carry on using it! I've been successfully growing in my pots of HOTBIN compost for four years using this top-up method.

Two: Empty the containers and put potting compost back through your compost bin. It’ll "recharge" and form new compost. Don't put it in as one big lump; instead mix in about one litre (medium plant pot) with fresh waste and add each week.
